Bangladesh were bowled out for 272 in their first innings on the second day of the first Test against West Indies at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, despite Sadman Islam's 105. In reply, West Indies reached 89 for 1 at stumps on day two.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 272 in their first innings on the second day of the first Test against West Indies at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. Despite Sadman Islam's brilliant century, a late batting collapse prevented a big total.
Bangladesh had ended the previous day at 213 for 3. From there, on the second day, the team lost the remaining 7 wickets adding only 59 more runs.
The day's big achievement was Sadman Islam's century. Scoring 105 off 234 balls with 11 fours, he completed the third century of his Test career. But soon after the century, he had to depart, trapped LBW by debutant Joshua Bishop.
After Sadman's dismissal, Bangladesh's innings offered no further resistance. Tawhid Hridoy was dismissed for 42 runs. In the end, Liton Das remained unbeaten on 34.
The most successful among the West Indies bowlers was Jomel Warrican. He took 5 wickets for 53 runs. It was mainly his bowling that broke Bangladesh's middle and lower order.
In reply, West Indies reached 89 for 1 in 27 overs at the end of the second day. John Campbell remained at the crease unbeaten on 53.
West Indies are still 183 runs behind Bangladesh's first-innings 272. But with 9 wickets in hand, the visitors are in a good position.
At the end of the second day's play, the match seems to have tilted largely towards West Indies. On the third day, Bangladesh's bowlers will need to take quick wickets to try to get back into the match.
