Tea-break rain floods outfield; poor light then rules out final session

Play on the second day of the first Test between Bangladesh and West Indies has been called off due to rain and bad light. No play was possible after the tea break.

Rain arrived over the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium area in Mirpur during the tea interval. The third session could not begin at the scheduled time because of the rain.

As the rain fell, the sky darkened under black clouds. The stadium floodlights were switched on to deal with the situation, but conditions still did not become fit for play.

Water accumulated in several areas of the outfield in the rain. Although the ground staff tried to clear it, the outfield could not be made playable.

Then, even after the rain stopped, a new problem arose — bad light. With insufficient natural light in the sky, the umpires did not permit play to resume.

As a result, no further play was possible on the second day. The day's play was declared closed at the position it stood at the tea break.

This weather interruption could affect the course of the match. With time lost to rain, both teams now need to adjust their match plans.

All eyes are now on the weather on the third day. If the ground dries and play starts on time, both teams will get the chance to make full use of the day's play.
