PM Returns After Japan Visit; Technical Fault on Return Flight
Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has left Tokyo at the end of a four-day official visit to Japan, which included a Toyota factory visit and bilateral talks with Japan's prime minister. The return flight was delayed by about 40 minutes after a technical fault was detected in the Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft.
Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has left Tokyo at the end of a four-day official visit. His flight was scheduled to depart from Narita Airport at 6:17 pm local time.
During the visit, the Prime Minister toured Toyota's Motomachi factory. He also held bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. It is learned that investment and trade-related matters were discussed at the meeting.
Technical Fault on the Return Journey
However, an unexpected incident occurred on the way home. A technical fault was detected in the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, delaying the journey by about 40 minutes beyond the scheduled time. After the fault was detected, the aircraft was taken back to the tarmac.
The Prime Minister's entourage and the officials concerned are reported to be safe. Detailed information about the nature of the technical fault has not yet been disclosed.
The Japan visit is considered significant in terms of the relationship between the two countries. The tour of a world-renowned institution like Toyota's factory and the meeting with Japan's head of government both signal increased Japanese investment in Bangladesh. Japan has long been one of Bangladesh's largest development partners; this visit is hoped to deepen that relationship further.
Government circles have expressed satisfaction at the news of the Prime Minister's return home after the visit. Apart from the delay of the return flight, all other programmes of the visit were completed as scheduled, it is learned.
