Multiple explosions reported near Qeshm and Bandar Lengeh in Hormozgan province; casualty information not yet confirmed

Multiple explosions were heard early Tuesday (November 3) near Qeshm Island and Bandar Lengeh in southern Iran. Iran's state news agency IRNA reported at least five explosions heard on Qeshm. Fars News reported explosion sounds coming from the sea direction near Bandar Lengeh. Both areas lie in Hormozgan province, adjacent to the Strait of Hormuz.

While Iranian media confirmed the explosions, no confirmed information on casualties or damage was immediately available.

Citing US officials, a Wall Street Journal report claims the United States has conducted limited strikes on Iranian targets over the past several weeks. According to the report, Washington describes these as defensive measures — aimed at securing commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and deterring Iran from attacking or threatening vessels. Anadolu Agency's reporting carried the same account.

Notably, the claim of "US strikes" rests on media reports citing US officials; Iran has not yet issued an official explanation of the cause of the explosions.

The background

The conflict between the two countries began on February 28, 2026, followed by a ceasefire in April. A memorandum of understanding on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz was signed on June 18, but its implementation has stalled. Message exchanges continue through Qatari mediation — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi recently visited Doha.

On Monday (November 2), US President Donald Trump told reporters: "We had a war with Iran. We won." He also downplayed the prospect of a new major conflict. Notably, the US midterm elections are being held today, Tuesday.

Analysts note that a large share of the world's energy supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz; any escalation in the area could affect international markets.
