A Learjet 60 business jet carrying nine people crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, killing everyone aboard, US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed. The aircraft went down around 12:50pm local time near Cresthaven in Greenacres, about six to nine miles from President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. The jet had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was bound for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The FAA said the 22-year-old aircraft dropped from 35,250 feet to 8,750 feet in under a minute. Duffy described the crash as a "horrific tragedy." Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also commented on the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with the FAA's assistance. Storm activity was reported in the region around the time of the crash, but authorities have not confirmed whether weather played a role. The identities of the victims have not been released, and it was not immediately clear whether anyone on the ground was hurt.
