The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) has seized six gold eggs at Dhaka airport in two separate operations. The seized gold weighs 2.728 kg with an estimated market value of about Tk 4.91 crore, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said. Acting on a tip-off, officials identified a suspicious passenger on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-127 bound for Abu Dhabi via Chattogram and deplaned him before its 7:20pm departure. Based on his information, three gold eggs weighing 1.364 kg were recovered. The gold had earlier been brought into Bangladesh from Abu Dhabi, according to CIID. The agency is investigating the roles of those involved, the true source of the gold and whether an international smuggling ring is behind it. Legal proceedings are underway.
