A Dhaka court has set January 31, 2027, as the date for submitting the investigation report in the corruption case filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana.

The accused in the case are former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Nazrul Islam Mazumder, former president of the Bangladesh Bankers' Association (BAB). The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on September 3, 2026.

Allegation: Tk 276 Crore from CSR Funds

According to the case statement, Tk 276.34 crore was taken from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds of 41 banks. The allegation states that the money was collected through the "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust." The trust was formed on September 6, 1994.

The ACC's allegation says this huge sum from the banks' social responsibility funds was taken without following proper rules, and questions remain over its use. Investigators are now reportedly scrutinizing the money trail and the details of its use.

The case has sparked widespread discussion in the country's political and financial circles. The allegation of such a large financial irregularity against the former prime minister and members of her family is undoubtedly being treated as a significant legal process.

With the court setting the date for the investigation report, all eyes are now on the investigators. What the report reveals will determine the future course of the case. However, until the report is submitted, the allegations against the accused have not been proven — it is only a case under investigation.
